My piece for the exhibition analyses the influence of 'program defaults' in art and design. When, more and more, art/design objects rely on symbiotic relationships between human and machine, and artists are no longer the creators of their own tools, relevant questions about the spontaneity in the art process rise. Is the notion of ‘work of art’ about to change? Is our behavior somehow controlled? Can we still be confident of our supremacy over the machine? New technology has changed completely the subject of Design, from the tools we use to its ideological model and purposes. Perhaps, it is time to rethink our role within the interaction between machine and human.
